Obituary

Walter Dennis Wilson III, 37, of Danville, WV passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026.

He was born August 8, 1988 in Greenview, WV to Helen and Walter Wilson, Jr. He was a 2006 graduate of Scott High School where he was an active student, both academically and athletically. He played basketball and participated in junior high football, earning numerous academic achievements and awards. During those times, he built lasting friendships and created many cherished memories filled with adventure, laughter, and time spent with the those he loved most.

Following high school, he proudly served for 10 years as a staff sergeant in the Air National Guard, demonstrating dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of duty. Alongside his service, he worked tirelessly in his studies and training, traveling and gaining experience to become a skilled lineman.

Throughout his life, he showed incredible resilience and strength, overcoming personal struggles and celebrating sobriety in July 2019. His faith was a guiding force in his life. Attending church was a heartfelt milestone that reflected his strength, faith, and the path he fought hard to walk. Along with dedicating his life to the Lord, Walter also devoted himself fully to his family. Their home was filled with love, games, laughter, prayer, singing, and dancing. He brought light, joy, and adventure into every corner of their lives.

He was a man of quiet strength, whose life was anchored by his abiding love or the Lord Jesus. A devoted man to Brii, a hero to his three children, he led his family with prayer and worked tirelessly. Though his hands were calloused from years of hard work, his heart was always soft for his family and his Savior Jesus. We take comfort in knowing he is now at peace and in the arms of Jesus. His legacy, faith, and fierce love will never fade.

Preceding him in death are Chelcie and Thelma Lambert; Walter and Ruthalea Wilson; and Tammy Wiant.

Left to cherish Water’s memory is his fiancé, Brianna Dillon; son, Walter D. Wilson IV (Lil’ Man); daughters, Aubrie Dillon (Aub) and Skylar Wilson (Boo Boo); parents, Walter Jr. and Helen Wilson; and sisters, Lula (Howie) Dingess, Ruthie (Eugene) Gray; Thelma (John) McClure.
