Virgil Hugh Sharp, 90 years old, of Temple, Texas passed away on December 9, 2025. He passed away peacefully and will be missed by many.
Virgil was born on February 19, 1935, to Virgil and Eunice Sharp in Ridgeview, West Virginia. He attended Brush Creek school as a child before beginning his work career in the offices of the Charleston Capitol Building. In 1955 Virgil met Gladys Parsons at Hopkins Fork Baptist Church. They wed on July 4, 1959. The couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Virgil began working at Midland Ross and Sears part-time. He spent most of his career working at Ford in the engine plant, where he retired. Later in life, once moving to Whitney, Texas, Virgil began working as the middle school custodian. Working their way back to West Virginia in 2010, Virgil took on a job at Elder Beerman in Charleston.
Virgil was a caring and compassionate man that would do anything for everyone around him. He loved his family, Southern Gospel quartet music and a Quarter Pounder with cheese from McDonald’s with a cup of coffee. He was an active member of his church, Cleveland Freewill Baptist Church while living in Ohio. More recently he attended Foundation Global Methodist Church in Temple, Texas.
Virgil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys; parents, Virgil and Eunice Sharp; brother, Daniel Sharp; and infant siblings.
Virgil is survived by his son Gregory Sharp (Monique) of Belton Texas and daughter Sheila Overy (Robert) of Grafton, Ohio; grandchildren Brian Sharp (Ezekiel), Bradley Sharp, Jessica Sampson (Matt), Faith Redus (Noah), Garret Sharp (Chyanne), Caleb Sharp, Bryson Sharp and Hannah Overy (Dakota); great-grandchildren Julian Sharp, Emily Sharp, Bradley Sharp, and Barret Sharp.
Services will be held at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia on Sunday Dec. 14, 2025. Viewing will be from 1:00pm-2:00pm, Service at 2:00pm. Graveside will be immediately following service, at Boone Memorial Park in Madison, WV where he will be interred.
There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday Jan. 11,2026 at Foundation Global Methodist Church in Temple, Texas. The service will be at 1:00 pm.
