Tonja Michele Wiley (Halstead), 59, passed away on 26 August 2026 after a long and hard fight with cancer. She fought like a warrior.
Tonja was born on 29 May 1967 in Madison, West Virginia, a daughter of Linda F. Halstead (Miller) and the late Samuel C. Halstead.
She graduated from Scott High School in 1985 and shortly after proudly enlisted in the United States Army where she completed two tours overseas in Germany and South Korea. In 1991 she was honorably discharged and returned to the place she loved most, Madison, WV. For over 20 years, Tonja served the Boone County School System where she worked as a dedicated cook at Madison Middle School, retiring in 2018 after her diagnosis. Anyone who knew Tonja knew there was truly no one else quite like her. She was completely and unapologetically herself, no matter where she was or who she was around. She had an ability to light up any room she entered. With her quick witted humor and heart of gold, she made everyone she met feel loved. An avid outdoors woman, she enjoyed hunting , fishing and watching raccoons eat cat food off her back porch. She also loved doing puzzles, taking care of her animals and spending time with her grandkids.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents Nell and Tossie Miller of Madison, WV and Eva and Willie Halstead of Foster, WV.
Along with her mother, Linda, Tonja is survived by the love of her life, Kenny Wiley; her daughter Sierra Halstead of Dayton, Ohio; her son Timothy Godbey, his wife Jen Ball and their two boys Kowen and Theo Godbey of Barboursville, WV; her son Bobby Wiley and his sons Cody Stewart and Scotty Wiley of Madison WV; her sister, Selena Cantley (Halstead) her husband Ron Cantley and their daughters Jessica and Kaylyn Cantley of Columbus, Ohio; her grandparents of the heart, Mallie and June Miller of Madison WV; and her most special friends Nina Brumfield, Laura Miller and Terri Dolin along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that she loved deeply.
