Thomas Ernie Harvey of Greenwood, WV, entered the presence of the Lord on May 3, 2026, at the age of 82.
Thomas was born April 22, 1944 in Bald Knob, WV to the late Marvin and Agnes Harvey. He attended Wharton Elementary School and Van Jr. Sr. High School.
After high school, Thomas joined the United States Marine Corp in 1961. He served his country proudly as a Private First Class until 1966. While in the military, Thomas met the love of his life, Francis “Jenny” Dyke, and they were married June 27, 1964. Thomas and Jenny shared 61 years together and had three children, Gordon Keith, Thomas Scott, and Tony Marvin.
He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his tall tales, picnics on the roof, driving lessons, zest for life, generosity, and his inability to tell the kids “No.” He took great pride in the family legacy he built and the love he poured into each generation.
Thomas worked as a coal miner at Eastern Associated Coal and Bethlehem Steel for 23 years. He formed many lifelong friends while working in the mining industry. He was a devoted member of Bald Knob United Methodist Church and sang in the Glory Land Choir. While the family feels a deep void left by his passing, they rejoice in knowing that he is home, singing his praises with his Savior.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Scott; brothers, Otis Harvey and Dockie Harvey; sisters, Judy Miller and Kathy Johner.
Surviving Thomas is his wife, Francis “Jenny” Harvey; sons, Gordon (Melanie) Harvey and Tony (Angela) Harvey; grandchildren, Jon (Laina) Harvey, Caleb (Laura) Harvey, Anna (Colton) Hammond, Corey (Nyi Nyi Myin) Harvey, and Connor (Marischen) Harvey. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Thomas leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and family that will continue for generations to come.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV, with Matthew Johner officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Harvey-Toler Cemetery in Wharton, WV.
