Thomas Ray Barnett, 74, of Danville, WV, passed away on July 17, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born on November 30, 1950, to the late Woodrow and Jennie Barnett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Barnett and David Barnett, both of Danville, WV; and sisters Alice Miller, Barbara Barnett, Mary Gibson, and Janet Barnett, all of Danville, WV.
Tommy was a 1970 graduate of Scott High School. He proudly served as a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and the Brothers of the Wheel. He was a retired coal miner.
He is survived by his children, Jennie Cook of Foster, WV; Chris Barnett (Erica) of Villa Hills, KY; John (Rebecca) Barnett of Haymarket, VA; Justin Barnett (Jessica) of Alum Creek, WV; and Bryan Barnett of Danville, WV; grandchildren: Sophie and Tanner Cook of Foster, WV; Ellah and Nathan Barnett of Villa Hills, KY; Nicholas and Benjamin Barnett of Haymarket, VA; and Koada and Ryder Barnett of Alum Creek, WV; sisters, Margaret McCormick and Phyllis Green of Danville, WV; brother, Clarence Barnett (Dora) of Alkol, WV; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held Monday July 21, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Handley Funeral Home with a visitation 1 hour prior. A burial will follow at Danville Memorial park.
