Stephen Wayne Green, 66, of Uneeda, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at 5:25 PM, with his family by his side.
Born on February 26, 1959, Stephen was a man of quiet strength, steady hands, and a contagious laugh that could be heard in any room. He spent his life rooted in Boone County, where he became a trusted friend, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a man many turned to in times of need.
Stephen worked for over 30 years for the Boone County Board of Education. Though his role was behind the scenes, his impact was deeply felt. But his real pride was in giving back to his community—not just with his time, but with his heart. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, where he mentored youth and taught the value of service, leadership, and humility. He also gave his time and talents to the Boone County Community Band, sharing his love of music and fellowship through every note.
He is survived by his father, Fred Franklin Green; his loving wife of 26 years, Kelly Green; his son, Andrew Green, and wife Rachel; his sister, Lisa Mounts, and her husband James.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Junita Sue Green; and his grandparents, Ada and John Green, and George and Violet Charles—people who helped shape the strong and compassionate man he became.
Stephen was a man who led by example. He believed in showing up for your people, saying little but meaning everything, and doing your best—even when it was hard. He was funny, stubborn, thoughtful, and deeply loyal. If he loved you, you knew it—and he’d give you the shirt off his back without being asked.
He taught his son not just how to work with his hands, but how to carry himself with dignity and kindness. His legacy isn’t just in the work he did—but in the people he raised, the love he gave, and the quiet wisdom he shared.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, with services to follow at 2:00 PM. All are welcome to come and honor a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Stephen’s memory to your local animal shelter or to HospiceCare of Charleston—two causes that reflect the compassion and heart that defined his life.
“He was our rock, our steady, our compass. We will carry his love and lessons with us always.”
