Shirley Diana Jarrell Hill, 74, of Chapmanville entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2025 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV after a brief illness.
Shirley was born September 28, 1950 to the late Denver and Helen Faye Jarrell in Madison, WV. She was a 1968 graduate of Scott High School. Not long after graduation, she began working for Boone County Schools, which she retired from in 2004. In 1971, she married David C. Hill and they made their home on Ellis Fork. In 1978, they welcomed their only child, Heather. Shirley loved to grow flowers, quilt, play Scrabble, and watch Wheel of Fortune. If you ever crossed paths with Shirley, she probably had a smile and a friendly word for you. She loved family gatherings, especially those that had an infamous Jarrell girl giggle session. The lights of her life were her grandchildren, Will and Carlee, whom she adored.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband David C. Hill, her father, Denver Jarrell, and her mother Helen Faye Jarrell.
She is survived by her daughter Heather Hill Pettry (Charles); her grandchildren William Pettry and Carlee Pettry, all of Chapmanville; her sisters Helen Kay Baldwin of Foster, Judy Cabell of Foster, Gail Nelson (James) of Hewett, Teresa Jarrell of Drawdy, and chosen sister Angie Wolf; brothers Dennis Jarrell of Madison and Kennie Jarrell of Foster; sister-in-law Linda Marcum of Uneeda; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
