Richard Linn Smoot

Richard L. Smoot, 69, of Madison, WV passed away May 17, 2025. Richard was born to Reginald Smoot and Evelyn Smoot Crider on July 18, 1955.

Richard graduated from high school and later received certification as a mechanic. Richard being raised by grandparents Cornelius and Siebert Smoot taught him many valuable lessons. Richard used his knowledge of a little boy to mold life and to become the person we know and love today. Richard also received life lessons and inspirations from Grace and Cyril Smoot his other grandparents. Richard loved life and the outdoors. He would often boast about his fishing and hunting skills with Kenny and Joseph Saunders. He loved watching sports with 49ers as his favorite team. Later on in life, Richard enjoyed gardening, watching The Price Is Right, and spending time with loved ones. Richard favorite activity was to spend time either with brother Mann and brother-in-law Ivory Johnson riding up and down 77 singing old songs for trips to Ohio. Only problem you can take the boy from the country but you cant take the country from the boy. Richard would be in Ohio 3 days before he wants to go home to smell mountain air. Richard did not have children, he did however claim Jeremey as his son. To Rickey, this boy does no wrong. 

Richard has many loved ones awaiting his arrival. To mention a few, they include his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Richard leaves behind sisters Dreama (Ivory Johnson) Pamela, Lora (Timothy), Lisa Williams (Kevin) Kizzy and Marjorie. His brothers Allen Smoot, Robert and Rodney Crider. And a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Special thanks to Ms. Jennifer Pharr and Joseph Saunders instrumental in assisting with home going planning 

Services for Richard will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Family Gardens, Madison, WV. Pall bearers for Richard will be Jeremey Johnson, Robert Crider, Rodney Crider, Joseph Saunders. Honorable pall bearer, Andy Waugh.
