Richard G. Miller

d. January 13, 2024

Foster, West Virginia

Richard G Miller, 70, formerly of Foster, WV died peacefully on January 13, 2024 at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He was surrounded by his family and friends.

He was a faithful servant of God for over 40 years.  He served as an elder at Foster Church of Christ and  Southside Church of Christ. He never wavered on the truth of the word of God.  Reading his Bible was a daily passion until he could no longer do that.  After graduation from Scott High School, Richard was an electrician for Eastern Associated Coal Corporation and later Peabody Coal.  His best career was being the homeroom dad for his daughters Nicole and Nancy.  He coached basketball at Lory-Julian Elementary, ASA girls softball and between the two had many championships under his belt.  He played a significant role in establishing the relationship between girls softball and the Boone County Commission to obtain funding and assistance for the fields at Lick Creek Park.  He was a Virginia Beach Aquarium docent for the whale and dolphin tours for three years.

Richard was a member of Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge #170 of Madison, WV.  Richard enjoyed many hours of fellowship with his brothers in the lodge and sisters of the Rebekahs.  Over the years Richard raised various animals from bunnies to goats to burrows.  He had a natural way with animals.  He loved the West Virginia mountains and in his healthier years enjoyed his annual deer hunting season.

While he had varied interests, what brought him the most joy were his family. From Sunday dinners around his parent’s table to annual family reunions to travelling with his two daughters and six grandchildren. No greater light ever shown in his eyes than when he was in their presence.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents James and Lorene Miller; sister Barbara Older and brother Jeff Miller, nephew Darren Miller and his own beloved grandson Cooper Marable.

Richard was married to Denise Gibson Miller for 43 ½ years. He is survived by Denise; daughter Nicole (Derek) Dudding and their daughter Kayla (his first favorite grandchild); daughter Nancy (Sean) Marable and their children Bailey (his next favorite grandchild), Addison (his equally favorite grandchild), Primm (his wildly favorite grandchild), and Lily (his newest favorite granddaughter) as he said “I love them all equally”. His grandson Cooper, who was attached to his hip, and whom he moved to Virginia to spend time was there to greet him in Heaven on January 13th

Richard is also survived by his brothers Kermit and Warren Miller of Foster, WV; loving nieces and nephews who have always supported him.  He has a host of caring extended relatives from all family sides.

A memorial of love for Richard will be held at a later date.
