Regenia Mae Lucas

January 14, 1949 — March 30, 2026

Regenia Mae Ferguson Lucas of Midkiff, WV passed peacefully on March 30, 2026 at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House. She was born in Lincoln County, WV on January 14, 1949, as the second child to Pete and Sadie Manns Ferguson.

Regenia was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Midkiff, where she added her voice to the joyful noise.

She was a daughter of Marshall University, and taught high school business courses, including typing and business math, at Harts High and then Guyan Valley High School. After the schools consolidated, she retired but worked as a substitute teacher in Lincoln County schools for several years.

Regenia did not have children, but she helped raise many. Her younger brother, Joey (Darlena) Ferguson - now from Kenova - moved in with Nina when their father became ill. Joey stayed with Regenia and completed his senior year of high school. She was a second mother to her sister Phyllis’ children: Kenny Sanders and Shawn Sanders -both of Midkiff, WV; Philip (Maria) Sanders of Parma, OH; and Kecia (Jamie) Clay, Larry, Scottie, Misty, Brittany, Brian, Austin Keelia Ferguson, of Branchland, WV. She was Nina to the next generation of nieces and nephews including Braden (Jess) Ferguson, Kennadi Sanders, Anna Ferguson, Kelcie Clay, Kiara Sanders, Autumn (Jobie) Stacy, Tian Ferguson, Madison Sanders, Bentley Patterson, Alexus, Allea, Katianna Stephan, Maria & Waylon Armstrong, Daeus Jimison, & Kai Watson.

She also had a very special great niece Kayzlyn Gibson that she loved very much.

Nina was always supportive of her family, participating in everything from Girl Scout trips to band concerts. Her favorite thing was to have the whole family with her at Carolina Beach. We, her family, cannot adequately put into words how much Nina meant to us and how much she will be missed.

Besides her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Phyllis Sanders; two brothers - Ricky and Lucky Ferguson - and their wives; and her ex-husband, Daniel Lucas.

Services will be held at McGee-Handley Funeral Home in West Hamlin. Visitation Wednesday, April 1 from 6-8. Funeral Thursday, April 2 at 11:00. Her brother, Joey, will perform the service alongside Jamie Clay. Burial will follow at Manns Knob Cemetery in Harts, WV.
