Raymond Walter Thompson

Raymond Thompson of Low Gap, WV passed away on March 31, 2026. He was born in Man, WV on August 6, 1941.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Millie in 2024; his parents Walter Thompson and Emily Dotson Thompson; and his siblings Tracy Thompson, Troy Thompson, and Roger Lee Thompson.

Raymond is survived by his children Raymond Anthony Thompson and Teresa Michelle Thompson of Wharton, WV. Gregory Allen Thompson of Low Gap, WV. Jodi Thompson Tulley and John Christopher Mullins of Elkview, WV. Lisa Schultz of Newport, WV; grandchildren Tessarae Michelle Perry and Jacob Scott Perry of Bim, WV, Chase Alexander Thompson and Karessa Dawn Thompson of Winfield, WV, Caleb Aaron Thompson of Wharton, WV; great-grandchildren Camden Alexander Thompson and Koleson Drew Thompson of Winfield, WV, Piper Michelle Perry of Bim, WV. He is also survived by his siblings Shirley Inman of Madison, WV, Lillian Miller of Madison WV and Jerry and Elaine Thompson of Morristown, TN. He has countless surviving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He worked for Hobet Mining for 25 years and enjoyed being a member of the UMWA. He loved adventure and was an avid motorcycle rider his entire life. He loved his garage, flea markets and working outside. He loved his family immensely and he will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2026 at Handley Funeral in Danville, WV with Rev. Ray Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road, Madison, WV. Fellowship and dinner to be held afterward at Prayer Connection Lighthouse Church in Danville. All are welcome to celebrate the life of this great man.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
