Raymond "Ray" Burgess

Raymond “Ray” Burgess Jr., 61, of Powell Creek, WV passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022.
Ray was born December 13, 1960 in Madison, WV to his parents the late Raymond Sr. and Mildred Burgess. He grew up in Blair, WV and was known to his family and went by the nickname “Teeney Boy” and to some family and friends as “Uncle Bear”.
During his career, Ray was self employed but also worked for Oakwood Homes, Jim Stapleton Transport, and several other companies.
Ray never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met. With a big sense of humor, he always had a joke or funny comment to get a smile or laugh.
Including his parents, Ray was preceded in death by sisters, Lou Walker and Janet Havaland; and brothers, Ronald Walker and Roger Baldwin Sr.
Those left to cherish his memory, his daughter Amanda “Mandy” Burgess of Logan, WV; granddaughter, Lauren Adkins of Logan, WV; sisters, Betty Castle of Greenview, WV and Alice Baldwin of Powell Creek, WV; brother in law, Jack Havaland of Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
As per Ray’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. He wished to be cremated and a memorial at a later date will be scheduled by the family.
Handley Funeral Home in Danville is assisting the family.
