Patricia Ann “Trish” Mooney, 70, of Costa, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 19th, at her home surrounded by her family and fur babies.
Trish was a devoted Christian who deeply loved the Lord. She was a member of Moring Star house of prayer for many years. Along with her faith, her family was her life. Her grandkids brought her so much joy and you always heard a story about them. She spent many years as a cook for Boone County Schools. All her students were so special to her. Cooking was one of her passions. You never left her house without a meal, a snack for later, or a warm hug. She loved caring for others, and her kind, joyful spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
Trish is preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Pauline Barker; her father- and mother-in-law, Johnny and Polly Mooney; her sister-in-law Fay Mooney; and her brother-in-law Lee Estep.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, J.R. Mooney; daughters Kimberly Keffer and Brittany (Mark) Gillespie; son Dusty Carrol; sister and best friend Lou Estep; brothers Doug (Debbie) Barker and Roger (Linda) Barker; five grandsons: Collin, Cameron, Landyn, Brody, and Bryce; one granddaughter, Mila Fay; and one great-granddaughter, Oakley Mae. Also surviving are her beloved fur babies, Brandy and Millie Jo, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Trish’s family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to the nurses of 5 South Oncology at Charleston Memorial Hospital—Lisa, Kendra, and our angel Allie, and J.P. Stewart, owner of Coal River Tree Services—for their care and kindness.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Handley Funeral Home, with a visitation taking place the evening prior, on Wednesday, July 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. A burial will take place afterward at Barker Cemetery.
