Montgomery E. “Tony” Doss, 86, went to his Heavenly home to be with Jesus at 6:45 a.m. Sunday morning, July 13, 2025, from his earthly home in Danville, WV after a long illness.
Tony was born on November 15, 1938 to the late Victor Lee and Rhema Hager Doss in Madison, WV, and was a 1957 graduate of Scott High School. He was a 14 year employee for Boone County Board of Education and dedicated 22 years to Bethlehem Steel Coal Mines in Van, WV. He attended Laurel City Freewill Baptist Church and joined the Madison Civil Air Patrol at the age of 13. His favorite hobby was Amateur (HAM) Radio.
Tony lived a life of faith and service. He was known for his love of God, his church, and the kindness and compassion he showed to others by trying to fill every need of which he became aware.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sue King Doss; stepsons, Alan (Marilyn) King of Front Royal, VA, Steven King of Stephens City, VA and David King of Madison, WV; step-grandchildren, Ashley King Wilder of Herndon, VA and Heather King Powell of Indianapolis, IN; grandson, Thomas (Danielle) Doss of Salt Rock, WV; brother, James (Jewel) Doss of Charleston, WV. Tony is also survived by a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three sons, John, Tom, and Tony E. Doss, grandchildren Misty Doss Griffith and Bobby Joe Doss, and brothers Bob and Wendell (Wink) Doss.
A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m.,Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV, with Don Austin and Chuck Gillespie officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Madison, WV.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
