Margaret Parsons, 91, of Branchland, WV, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on February 17, 1935, in Branchland, WV, a daughter of the late Albert Clay and Lula Ramey Clay.
If you knew Margaret, you knew she was one of the toughest, hardest-working women around. In her career, she worked in factories manually assisting in the manufacture of cars, shoes, coats, and brassieres. At home, she worked in the garden, canned, cooked, and baked. She was a fine cook and an even better baker, and she passed those gifts down to her daughter and granddaughters. Every grandkid's birthday meant one of her beautifully decorated cakes. Margaret also had a quick wit, and she'd tell you exactly how it was, whether you wanted to hear it or not. More than anything, she loved her family. The best proof of the life she lived is how much her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren adored and respected her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Parsons; a son, Jasper Lee Parsons; three sisters, Ona Triplett, Irene Porter, and Faye Parsons; and two brothers, Verlin Clay and Bernie Clay.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Virgil Parsons, Randall (Deanna) Parsons, Kennith (Angela) Parsons, and Neda Jean (Bobby) Burns; a brother, Norwood Clay; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Nicholas) Tenney, Kenny (Andrea) Parsons, Colton (Kelsey) Parsons, Jessie (Tanner) George, Jasmine Parsons, and Destiny (Mason) Salyers; great-grandchildren Alannah Tenney, Nicholas Tenney, Caroline Salyers, Clara Parsons, and Jasper George; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. A special thank you to Megan Parsons for caring for her in her last few weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday October 5, 2026, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, with Jason McComas officiating. Burial will follow at Watson Cemetery, Branchland, WV. Friends may visit from 6 to 8pm on Sunday.
