Obituary

Malcolm Steward Sheppard Jr., of Comfort, WV, born June 9, 1942, went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents Malcolm Steward Sr and Doris Evelyn (Toler) Sheppard, as well as his brother Jimmy Sheppard.

Malcolm is survived by the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Donna (Perdue) Sheppard. They were married August 6, 1960, and spent the next 65 and a half years growing and nurturing their family.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory are his sister Barbara Pauley of Woodstock, Georgia, sister-in-law Gena Sheppard of Walnut Ridge, AR, brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Thompson of Jacksonville, FL, brother-in-law Thomas Perdue (Tammy) of Scott Depot; children Brenda Hamrick (Carl) of Comfort, Michael Sheppard (Caspia) of Alkol, Scott Sheppard (Jean) of Big Chimney; grandchildren Amanda Adkins (Robert) of Seth, Stacey Toney (Noah) of Seth, Zach Foster of Racine, OH, Alyson Hayes (Glenn) of South Charleston, Michelle Baldwin (Jason) of Comfort, Heather Tomblin (Cody) of Chapmanville, and Trenton Sheppard of Lewisburg; great grandchildren Brett and Nolan Adkins, Carlea, Addie, and Lincoln Toney, Makenna Keen, Brayden and Cameron Hamrick, Waylon and Olivia Baldwin, Mason Miller, and Layne and Kage Tomblin.

Malcolm was a 1960 graduate of Sherman High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army to the 3rd Armored Division and was stationed in Kirch-Gons, Germany from 1960-1963. He was called to the Berlin Wall in October 1962, at 20 years of age. He stood his post and did his duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served his country with honor before heading home to his girls.

Upon returning, Malcolm was hired as a canteen boy at DuPont. While there, he and Donna grew their family as he worked his way up. After 36 years, he retired as a Power House Supervisor.

He spent the next several years working on his “honey-do” list before returning to work as a security guard at BB&T for the next 18 years, retiring to stay home with Donna.

In everything he ever did, Malcolm excelled. He was an especially good husband, Dad, Pappaw, and Grandpa. He raised us all, and he did it well. Of all the wonderful things he ever did, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was the best. We know that we know that we know he entered in the Eastern Gate where he is quietly waiting for the family he loved so well to join him. He left us with the peace of knowing we can see him again in Heaven. If you haven’t accepted Jesus, he would encourage you to do that for your family, too.

John 6:37 Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out .

The Sheppard family would like to extend our utmost gratitude to the staffs at both Memorial Hospital in Charleston and Boone Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care given to Malcolm and our family. He was treated with such dignity and respect during his stay. Your diligence and dedication did not go unnoticed.
