Lula Carol Adams

October 19, 1950 — June 30, 2023

Colonial Beach, Virginia

Lula Carol "Poochie" Adams entered into eternal rest and peace on Friday, June 30th. Born to parents Bethel and Sylvia Jo Fowler, she spent her childhood helping to raise her five younger sisters, which prepared her for her journey into motherhood. In 1969 she married Glen "Buddy" Bartley and their union was blessed with two sons, Glen Bartley, Jr. and Kenny Scott Bartley. They also opened their heart and home to foster daughter Kathy Silva, who Lula loved and adored as her own. Lula was widowed at age 25, but didn't let that stop her. She had a will to not only survive, but thrive.

Lula later married Curtis Ray Adams and celebrated the addition of a daughter, Angela Love Adams. She spent most of her adult life in Boone County, holding various jobs, but raising her family was her true career. Lula was well known in her family and the community for her delicious home cooked meals, bountiful gardens, scrumptious canned goods, creative crafts, & love, care, & concern for anyone in need. She was a shoulder to cry on for many friends through the years. Lula's greatest joy in life was watching the family she built blossom and grow! She was excited and proud to expand her family with foreign exchange student Korsiri "Toey" Pulpinyo, from Thailand, who experienced West Virginia through Lula's eyes and at her dinner table, becoming another daughter! Lula was incredibly proud of her children and the families they went on to build.

Lula's final years were spent as a resident at Hillcrest Health. There, she was known for her beautifully decorated room filled with vast photos of her family, her beautiful clothing and jewelry collection, and her love of playing bingo. She treasured shopping trips sponsored by the center and had a wonderful day buying treasures her family just one day before she passed. She also made many friends with residents, their families, & the staff. Her family is incredibly appreciative of all the love and care they all extended during her residency.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents Bethel and Sylvia Jo Fowler; sisters Peggy Carter, Venita Hill, & Teresa Malcomb; husband Glen "Buddy" Bartley; foster daughter Kathy Silva, and her greatest and most tragic loss of her son, Kenny Scott Bartley. Her family is joyful that she is now reunited with those she loved and missed for so long.

Left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss here on earth are children, Glen A. Bartley, Jr & Angela Love Adams; daughter-in-law Erin Bartley & son-in-law Jamey Hamilton; grandchildren Cheryll Nunnery, Alicia Bartley, Jaelyn & Kenley Hamilton, and Annaliese & William Bartley; great grandchildren Kiella & Kenton Vance and Lexi, Jaxon, Cliff, & Madyson Nunnery; and sisters Sylvia "Sissy" Rhodes & Ronda Hensley.
