Obituary

Lily Mae Vande Linde Miller, 98, of Madison, WV, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on March 31, 1928, in Madison, WV, Lily spent nearly her entire life in the home she cherished in West Madison, where she lived for 97 of her 98 years and created a lifetime of family memories.

Lily was the daughter of the late Robert E. Vande Linde and Estola Willis Vande Linde. After attending Scott High School, she dedicated her life to caring for her family and home as a devoted homemaker. She was married to her beloved husband, Mancel “Dave” Miller, who preceded her in death 26 years ago.

A woman of faith, Lily was baptized at Danville Baptist Church on February 10, 1957. Throughout her life, she attended West Madison Baptist Church and Gospel Center Tabernacle Church. She enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful: quilting, gardening, family vacations, and camping trips to Summersville. Whether it was a camping trip, a family gathering, or a vacation, Lily was always excited and ready to go. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, and her family was always at the center of her life. She even continued hosting family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings well into her 90s.

She is survived by her children, Daniel Miller and wife Mary of Alkol, WV, Robert Miller of Madison, WV, and Marlene Gillispie and husband Paul of Madison, WV.

She is also survived by her sisters, Wanda Roberts of Orlando, FL, and Ruth Ann Mynhier and husband Charles of Rock Hill, SC.

Lily leaves behind a cherished family legacy through seven grandchildren: Paula Bias and husband Chris; Kevin Gillispie and wife Kim; Angie Elkins and husband Chris; Jared Setliff and wife Jenny; Toni Kirk; Alex Miller and wife Cate; and Jessica Toler and husband John.

She was blessed with twenty-two great-grandchildren: Toni Lea Poteat and husband Zachary; Logan Setliff; Kylee Dolin and husband Derek; Abby Setliff; Bayle Kirk; Cameron Kirk; Garrett Kirk; Olivia Bias Rosolen and husband Matt; Lilly Bias; Gavin Bias; Evan Gillispie; Ian Gillispie; Eli Gillispie; Taylor Booth and husband Chase; Jayden Elkins; Brody Elkins; Mason Miller; Aralynn Miller; Hudson Miller; Gigi Mitki; Nora Toler; and Ember Toler.

She was also blessed with three great-great-grandchildren: Ezekiel Dolin, Owen Booth, and Lucy Booth.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Vande Linde; her sisters, Virginia Lee Blankenship and Alice Roberts; and her grandson, Tony Setliff II.

For nearly a century, Lily’s life was deeply rooted in family, faith, and the Madison community she called home. She witnessed tremendous change throughout her 98 years yet remained steadfast in the values that mattered most: love for family, devotion to home, and trust in God. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will be remembered and treasured by all who knew her.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that the memories she created, the traditions she passed down, and the love she shared will continue to live on for generations to come.
