Kenneth Sanders, 84, of Midkiff, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2026. He was born August 27, 1941, in Ranger, West Virginia, to the late Roy and Ruth Ball Sanders. In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis Fern Sanders; his sister-in-law, Regenia Lucas; his sisters, Elaine Puskas and Jewell McCormick; and his brothers, Ralph, James, and Ed Sanders.
Kenneth loved his family deeply and leaves behind many cherished memories with those who meant the most to him. He is survived by his children: Kenny Sanders, Shawn Sanders, Philip (Maria) Sanders, and Kecia (Jamie) Clay. Kenneth is also survived by his sisters, Faye Sanders, Cynthia Richard, and Ruthie Puskas; and his brothers, Mike Sanders, Eugene Sanders, and Larry Sanders, all of whom will cherish his memory and miss him dearly. He was also blessed with grandchildren: Kennadi Sanders, Kelcie Clay, Autumn Stacy, Madison Sanders, Kiara Sanders, Brandon Ferguson, Anna Ferguson, Tian Ferguson, Alexus Stefan, Allea Stefan, Katianna Stefan and great grandchildren: Kayzlyn Gibson, Maria Armstrong, Waylon Armstrong, Daevus Jimison, and Kai Watson. Kenneth’s great-granddaughter, Kayzlyn, held a very special place in his heart. Even on his hardest days, her presence could brighten his spirit and bring a smile to his face.
He especially loved making her gravy and biscuits and pancakes.
Kenneth was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to working as a welder for several companies before retiring from Barboursville Block. Although he retired from work, he never truly slowed down. Kenneth had a deep love for gardening and could often be found tending to his garden from morning until evening. Anyone who drove by his home knew there was a good chance they would see him outside working in the garden he loved so much. He was especially known for growing some of the best watermelons around.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home with Jamie Clay officiating. Burial will follow at Manns Cemetery in Manns Knob, Harts West Virginia.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV.
