Juanita June Walker passed away October 6, 2023, surrounded by family, following complications from a stroke at age 90.
Juanita “Gadgie” Vickers was born prematurely on November 27, 1932, to Ward Raymond and Irene Vickers in Wharton, WV.
Mrs. Walker graduated from God’s Bible School & College in Cincinnati, Ohio, and married her lifelong love, Glen E. Walker, on July 23, 1949. She and Glen moved to Detroit, Michigan in September 1953.
Together, they raised their family, in Garden City, Michigan on a firm foundation of faith and service to God.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker worked together for 60 years conducting vacation bible school sessions, leading music groups and quartet ministry singing in churches, prisons, and nursing homes. A devoted Christian, Mrs. Walker had a strong love for Southern Gospel music.
Mrs. Walker loved faith and family most, spending much of her free time supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their endeavors. She also loved playing card games with family and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker, who met around the ages of 7 and 9, were married for 59 years, up until he succumbed to a years-long battle with leukemia.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her son, Randy (Linda) Walker; four grandchildren, Clay (Sherri), Steven (Andrea), Julie (Joe) and Brian (Christine); great-grandchildren, Jared, Anthony, Sophia, Alexis, Kaylee, Anderson, Jackson, Arianna, Keira, Joey, Maverick and Wilder; her sister, Kathryn “Kitty” Walker; in-laws Roger Royer and Shirley Walker; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.
Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Glen E. Walker; daughter Rebecca Royer, sons Charles W. Walker, Glen E. Walker, and Timothy W. Walker; two infant brothers and sister Edith Caudill.
Service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Gospel Center Tabernacle, Madison, WV with Pastor Walter Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison, WV.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is assisting the family.
