IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Lee
Sutphin
May 25, 1946 – February 5, 2026
Jerry Lee Sutphin of Uneeda, WV passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026.
Jerry was the son of the late Fred and Hazel (Keffer) Sutphin of Robinson, WV, born May 25, 1946. He was happily married to Ruth Ellen Sutphin for 61 years before her death in 2025. They were an example to everyone about how marriage should be and were truly soulmates. Ruth and Jery had one son, Jerry Brent Sutphin of Oceana. He was Jerry’s world. He also loved Brent’s wife, Patricia, like a daughter.
Jerry was a graduate of Van High School. After school, he went on to work in the coal mines. He worked hard at his job, but he was still willing to work hard to help anyone who needed him whether that was at work or at home.
Jerry enjoyed building and riding motorcycles and cars, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family. He loved practical jokes, always making them fun for everyone involved. He was excellent with animals, like a real-life Dr. Doolittle. They would be calm with him even if they weren’t calm with anyone else. He would do anything or give anything to help someone truly in need. He was like a father to his great-nieces, Shawna Walker and Amber Leftwich, who adored him. His nephew, Jimmy Berry II, was also very close to him. Jimmy was a bright spot in his life, especially in this last year. Jerry was very much loved by everyone who knew him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth as well as his sisters Joann Sutphin of Norfolk, VA, Geraldine (Paul) Smith of Norfolk, VA, and Cristine Sutphin of Danville, WV. He has also left behind many people who miss him greatly, but celebrate his life and cherish his memory. These people include his son Brent (Pat) Sutphin of Oceana, WV; granddaughter Kiersten (Joe) Staats of Poca, WV; and great-grandson Brexton Staats of Poca, WV.
A Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Family Gardens on Low Gap Road, 814 Hudson Lane, Danville, WV. Handley Funeral Home is assisting the family.
