Jerry Adkins, lovingly known as “Jerrybug” by his family, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, at his home in Branchland, West Virginia, at the age of 77.
Born on February 27, 1949, in Branchland, Jerry spent his entire life in the place he proudly called home. He was a special soul whose life touched many in quiet but powerful ways. Though he faced challenges throughout his life, Jerry showed a kind of strength and resilience that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
After the deaths of his parents, Jerry was cared for by his devoted sister, Jeanette Pritchard, with whom he shared his home. Through her love, compassion, and incredible care, Jerry was blessed with a beautiful life filled with comfort and dignity. He was also cared for by two wonderful caregivers, Theresa McCloud, who lovingly cared for him for three years, and Kelly Riffle, who cared for him for one year. Their love and devotion to his care will never be forgotten. His family was truly blessed by their presence and compassion.
The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to his cousin, Dutchess McComas, for always helping with his care whenever needed. Her kindness and support will always be remembered.
He had a gentle spirit and a pure heart. Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially long car rides, listening to gospel bluegrass music, and trips to the drive-in for a hot dog, fries, and a Pepsi. He also truly enjoyed being visited by Santa at Christmas time and loved playing with his nieces and nephews, as well as his great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Those moments brought him happiness and created memories that will be cherished by all who shared them with him.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, William Mack Adkins, and his mother, Macie Adkins.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Jeanette Pritchard, and his brother, David Bragg.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and all who had the blessing of knowing him. His life was a reminder of unconditional love, patience, and the importance of kindness.
While his passing brings sorrow, there is peace in knowing that Jerry is now free from pain and suffering.
As written in the King James Bible:
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” — Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
Funeral services for Jerry will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at McGee-Hanley Funeral Home in West Hamlin, West Virginia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. David Adkins and Jason McComas will be officiating the services, and the Gospel Heritage Gospel Group will be singing.
