James Alvin Hopkins, 71, of Danville, WV, gained his heavenly wings June 2, 2025 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia.
James is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debra Hopkins; 2 children, Trena Hager (Craig Hager) of Madison, WV and James Brian Hopkins (Brenn Hartley) of Columbia, SC; sister, Barbara Jarrell of Hurricane, WV; and brother, William E Hopkins Jr (Janet Hopkins) of Longmont, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents William E., Sr and Alice Hopkins of Danville, WV, brother-in-law Roger Jarrell Sr of Culloden, WV, nephew Roger Jarrell Jr of MD, and niece Vivian Jarrell of Hurricane, WV.
James was a coalminer and a proud member of the UMWA. He worked his final 14 years at Jacks Branch Mine at Van, WV until his retirement. He was a member of Six Mile Methodist Church but attended Hilltop Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Madison, WV.
The family of James would like to send their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all of staff at the Hubbard Hospice House Charleston, West Virginia. The family would like to say thank you for the kindness, compassion, and great care of James and his family during his stay with them.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. Visitation to be held one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Madison, WV.
