It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Kenneth Breedlove, a devoted father, respected coal truck driver, and pillar of strength, who passed away on Thursday, April 24th, 2025 at the age of 60. James, or Beetle, as most knew him, spent much of his life on the road, hauling coal across winding backroads and steep hills with unmatched skill and unwavering dedication. Over the years, he worked for several companies, including Marcum Trucking and Black Label, earning a reputation as one of the top coal haulers. Rain or shine, Beetle could be found behind the wheel of his rig, calm, confident, and always dependable.
To Beetle, trucking was never just a job, it was a way of life. It was a testament to dedication, discipline, and providing for those he loved. He never sought recognition, but those who knew him, knew the weight he carried --not just in the back of his trailer, but in the heart he put into every mile. He was deeply respected by his fellow drivers, coworkers, and all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
Known for his steady presence and a work ethic as solid as the roads he traveled, Beetle was more than just a driver. He was a man of integrity and grit. He wore his denim and boots not just as clothing, but a as a reflection of the life he built with his own two hands. Above all else, Beetle was a loving father to his two daughters, Amanda and Heather, who were his greatest pride and joy. He raised them with the same strength, stubbornness, and love that he brought to the road, instilling in them the values of honesty, resilience, and family.
Beetle is survived by his parents, James and Diana Breedlove; daughters, Amanda Dingess and Heather (John) Quick; grandsons Jordan Dingess, Ethan Quick, and Rhett Quick; and his brother, Scotty Breedlove; as well as a wide circle of family, friends, and fellow drivers who will forever carry his memory.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Jesse and Hazel Thompson; James "Buck" and Eunice Breedlove; son-in-law Shane Dingess; aunts and uncles Pat Jarrell, Mark Breedlove, and Kyle "Stinky" Breedlove; as well as many other loved ones and special friends he had met throughout the years.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Sunday, April 27 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Chuck Gillispie officiating. Burial will follow in Breedlove Cemetery, Julian, WV.
Visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In honor of his final ride a convoy of loved ones will roll in tribute to the Breedlove Family Cemetery - an echo of the life he lived behind the wheel, and a salute to a man who hauled far more than coal; he carried the weight of love, loyalty, and legacy.
Rest easy, Beetle. The journey is done, the load is light. You are home.
