With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, family member, and friend, Helen Halstead Monk, who passed away at her home in Peytona, on July 1, 2026, at the age of 60.

Born on July 31, 1965, in Columbus, OH, Helen spent much of her life bringing beauty and confidence to others as a hairstylist. Working from her salon at her home, she welcomed generations of clients who became much more than customers—they became family & friends. She had a gift for making people feel beautiful, both inside and out.

She found joy in the simple things. Her yard was a reflection of the care she poured into everything she loved. Whether she was tending her beautiful flower beds, mowing the grass, or working outdoors, she took great pride in creating a home that was warm and inviting. Blessed with a true green thumb, she could bring almost anything to life.

She also loved to travel with her family and embraced every opportunity to see the beauty our country had to offer, visiting much of the United States and creating memories along the way.

She was a member of Peytona Church of Christ and, throughout much of her life, found fulfillment in serving and helping others whenever she could.

In her later years, she was affected by a devastating illness that gradually stole much of the independence and vibrant personality that those who loved her remembered so well. While the disease changed many things, it could never erase the life she lived, the people she touched, or the memories she created.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Garrett Monk, and his two children Taylor Monk of California, and Savanna Nelson (& Family) of Georgia; her only daughter, Veronica Lucas & grandkids Aiden, Ty, & Averleigh Lucas of North Carolina; Parents Claude “Gene” & Bertha Halstead of Drawdy, WV; Sister Jennifer (Jeff) Hill of Rock Hill, SC; beloved nieces & nephews, and a host of family, dear friends, former clients, and neighbors who will remember her with love.

Those who knew her will remember her smile, her dedication to her work, the beauty of her flowers, and the pride she took in caring for her home. Though her final years were difficult, we choose to remember the woman whose hands created beautiful hairstyles, a blooming landscape, and countless acts of kindness.

We find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace.

A Celebration of Life honoring Helen will be held 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Peytona Church of Christ in Peytona, WV.
