Helen Mae Goodwin, 80, of Van, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2013 at home after a short illness.
Helen was born on September 2, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of Boone County. She served as Postmaster in Van for the last 44 years, until her retirement in 2012, and along with her husband Bill enjoyed talking to and laughing with ALL the customers.
Left behind to cherish her memory are husband, William C. "Bill" Goodwin; son, Mike (Kim) Davis of Winfield WV; step-daughters, Michelle (Thomas) Mouser of Phillipi, WV and Melissa (Chuck) Higbee of Bluefield, WV; brother, Jackie Wright of Williams Mountain; sisters, Mary Sue (Jimmy) Lyons of Burlington, KY and Patsy (Dave) Gogas of Van. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held on January 23, 2013 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Handley Funeral Home in Danville.
Funeral services will be held at Handley Funeral Home on January 24, 2013 at 11:00am with the Rev. Steve Burns officiating. The burial will be at Mid-Ferrell Cemetery in Bandytown, WV.
