Helen Laverne Dingess

August 3, 1934 — February 14, 2013

Helen Laverne Blair Dingess of Van, Boone County was born August 3, 1934 and passed away on February 14, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was born in Logan County, and moved to Van, where she attended and graduated from Van High School. Helen had a loving and generous heart. She loved music, loved to dance and traveling with her husband, Billy (Burr Head). Even though Helen was beautiful, she didn’t like to have her picture taken and would, in fact, often hide her face.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Dollie Blair; two sisters, Becky (Ed) Brown, Alice (Corbet) Woodrum, and two brothers, Johnny (Anna Ruth) Blair and Billy Joe Blair; as well as brothers-in-law Warren “Buck” Johnson, Jim Corvetti, Arthur “Ott” Davis, and Jerry Wayne Dingess; and great grandson, Rylee Todd Workman.

Helen is survived by her husband, and high-school sweetheart, Billy Dingess, as well as daughter Sabrina Jane and (Rickie) Chewning; grandchildren, Misty (Todd) Workman of Van, and Makisha Jane (Joey) Cook of Wharton; and great-grandchildren, Mylee Workman and Beckett Cook. She is survived by sisters, Roxie Corvetti, of Calabash, SC, Pauline Johnston of Logan, WV and Fronia Faggart of Los Angeles, CA. In addition, Helen is also survived by sisters-in-law, Deloris Jean Davis of Charleston, Mary Jane Kendall of Elkview, and Sue Dingess of Gaithersburg, MD; and brothers-in-law Arthur “Dick” (Janice) Dingess, David L. (Sandy) Dingess of Van, John F. (Hisae) Dingess of Marina, CA, Ronald (Sue) Dingess of Saint Albans, Donald E. (Billie Sharon) Dingess of Wharton, Roger A. (Kim) Dingess of Elkview, and Larry J. (Brenda) Dingess of Middletown, DE. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. Our hearts are broken at the loss of this beautiful human being.

In honor of Helen, if you desire, the family suggests that donations be made to the Van Volunteer Fire Department, Box 138, Van, WV 25206 or charity of your choice.

In keeping with Helen’s wishes, she will be cremated. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Memory Gardens at Low Gap with Tim Spratt and the Rev. Phil Rowe officiating.
