Glenn D. Duty 88 of Madison, WV
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glenn Darrell Duty, 88 of Madison, WV. He died on March 7,2026 after an extended illness surrounded by his beloved family.
Glenn grew up in Ramage, WV. He often talked of how as a youngster he would get up early each morning to light the stove and prepare the two-room schoolhouse for school to take place.
As a teenager, his family moved to Madison. He graduated from Scott High School and later from Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston).
In 1959 Glenn married the love of his life, Kathryn Sue Kellogg, and started his life and family in Knoxville, Tennessee. At the same time, he served in the US Army and Army Reserves. For many years he worked as a salesman for Union Underwear Company (Fruit of the Loom). Glenn had the personality and ingenuity to be successful at anything he attempted.
In 1976, Glenn and his family moved back to West Virginia to join the family business, Boone Oil Company. Glenn became president of the company and along with his brother, watched the company grow.
Glenn was also very involved in his community. He was past president of the oil jobbers association (OMEGA). He sat on the boards of Boone Memorial Hospital and Boone County Bank. Glenn served as president of the local Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a faithful member of Bible Center Church and Madison Baptist Church until his health prevented him from attending.
Glenn enjoyed traveling, having visited England, Scotland, France, Canada, and Mexico. However, his favorite pastime was playing golf, and he was a member of Riverview Country Club and Logan Country Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf with his friends at their beach house in Little River, South Carolina.
Glenn was predeceased by his parents, Naamon and Jewell Duty. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kathryn Sue; his daughters Mary (Bill) Nelson and Pamela Blethen; his grandchildren, Robbie Johnson and Kathryn Blethen; brother Bob (Jonnie) Duty; brother-in-law Howard (Ginger) Kellogg; sister-in-law Margaret Kellogg; niece Jennifer (Ed) Eubanks; and nephew Eric (Amy) Duty.
Glenn never knew a stranger, was kind-hearted, and was often known as an encourager. He will be deeply missed but we rejoice in knowing that "to be absent of the body is to be in the presence of the Lord."2 Corinthians 5:8
A special thank you to Hospice Nurse Melanie Martin for the exceptional care she provided for our father. We would also like to thank his loyal caregivers, Faith Morris, Mountain Top Home Care and Village Caregivers.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Wednesday, March 11,2026 at Handley Funeral Home, Madison, WV. Bill Cook will officiate the service immediately following visitation, with burial at Boone Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.
