Geraldine Chafin

Geraldine Chafin, 91, of Madison, WV passed away March 24, 2024 at the CAMC-General Division in Charleston, WV. She was born June 26, 1932 in West Hamlin, WV a daughter of the late Edgar and Opal Winnona Meade Adkins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Chafin; her grandparents, James Meade, Rosetta Madden Meade, Elisha Adkins and Julia Bills Adkins; siblings, Nada Triplette, James Adkins, and Steve Adkins; and son-in-law Steve Smarr.

Mrs. Chafin was a member of the West Madison Baptist Church, loved to read and color on her computer, loved spending time with family, enjoyed spending time at the beach with her family, loved shopping, and was a retired secretary and bookkeeper from the Boone County Board of Education.

Survivors include her children, Michael Kim (Belinda) Chafin of Madison, Ernest Mark (Becky) Chafin of Forest, VA, Randy Joe (Robin) Chafin of Madison, and Kathy Smarr of Marietta, GA; brothers, Gale Adkins of Worthington, KY, Gary (Roma) Adkins of Chesapeake, OH, and Keith (Joy) Askins of Salt Rock, WV; grandchildren, Cristen (Joel) Jandreau, Jared (Katie) Chafin, Amber (Jon) Chafin, Cameron (Hollie) Chafin, Noelle Chafin, Sterling Chafin, Zachary (Emily) Smarr, and Taylor (Harrison) Dean; great grandchildren, Macie Spurlock, Carter Jandreau, Jordan Jandreau, and Palmer Smarr; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29 at the West Madison Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Barker officiating.

Handley Funeral Home in Danville is assisting the family.
