Genevieve Edna Nelson

Genevieve Nelson, born July 20, 1940, passed away on July 16, 2025, 4 days shy of her 85th birthday.

She was the daughter of Don Nelson Sr. and Della Miller Nelson. She was also a lifetime member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Turtle Creek, WV. Many of the church members were like family to her. Genevieve lived at home with her parents on a farm in Turtle Creek. She graded tobacco, worked in the garden, and helped with the household chores. Genevieve loved her family. When you went home to visit, she would run down the hill, wrap her arms around you, and give you the biggest hug. She was so happy to see you, and she also loved talking with her friends on the phone.

She was the youngest of 8 Nelson children and the last survivor. 

Preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Maloy Nelson of Belpre, OH, Alvin Nelson of Reeds Spring, MO, Anna Lee Nelson Miller of Turtle Creek, WV, Delta Nelson Hill of Madison, WV, Dennis Nelson of Bethel Park, PA, Darrell Nelson of Bridgeport, WV, Don Nelson Jr. of Danville, WV. Genevieve is also preceded by two nephews and one niece. 

She is survived by sister in law, Patsy Nelson, and 17 nieces and nephews.

Services for Genevieve will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Tom Bias officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Madison, WV.
