Garnet Clay

Garnet Clay, 98, of Uneeda, WV went home to be with The Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2024, after a short illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Garnet was married to Charles Clay who preceded her in death. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Charles and N. Ann Clay, Ann Whitmore, Ada and Ron Dolin, Guyneth White, Gayle Bryant, Mary and Jerry Thompson, and Marlene and Bill Woods; grandchildren, Amy Brown, Jamy Whitmore, David Dolin, Danny White, Jackie Clay, Angela Smith, Franki Bryant, Elizabeth Thompson, Kristophor Clay, and Ana Mcie; 20 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; brother, Attlee and Jean Griffis; sister, Joan Green; and special nephew, Dustin Miller.

Garnet retired from Boone County Schools after 35 years of service which began in a one-room schoolhouse, and many students remember and loved her. She was a member of Gospel Center Tabernacle, a life member of Boone VFW Auxiliary, and Boone County Genealogy Society.

Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter and infant son; parents W T Buddy and Frances Griffis; brothers Bill and James Griffis; sisters Loretta Petry and Alfreda Bishop; and sons-in-law Tommy Whitmore, Danny White, and Frank Bryant; and grandson, Patrick White.

Funeral services will be held at Gospel Center Tabernacle, 224 Riverside Drive, West Madison, WV on Thursday, May 2, at 3:00 pm with Pastor Walter Gore officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior before the service.

Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is assisting the family.
