Forrest Ellsworth Ramsey Jr., 85, of Orgas, WV, made it to his heavenly home on August 12, 2026. He was born February 4, 1941 to Forrest Sr. “Docky” and Lillian “Bill” Ramsey. Forrest was a faithful Christian and devoted deacon of Toney’s Branch Freewill Baptist Church. He spent his life working with his hands; as a music school teacher, heavy machinery operator, tree cutter, and later, as a comforting presence at Armstrong Funeral Home.

A man known for his bright blue eyes, big smile, deep voice, and even bigger heart, Forrest loved people and the outdoors. But above all, he loved his family. He was the devoted husband of 63 years to his beloved wife, Peggy Lou Ramsey, whom he spoiled like a queen. He treasured his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren beyone measure.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; daughter, Marshelle (Tim) Pettry; son, Forrest III (Kellie) Ramsey; grandchildren, Lee (Andrea) Stover, Hope (Joe) McCormick, Chelsea (JD) Canterbury, JV (Charlotta) Elswick, Cassie (Jack) Edwards, and Miss Lilly (Devin) Carney; and his 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.

He is preceded in death by a multitude of family.

Forrest was a man of his hands. He worked with them, waved with them, held his loved ones with them, directed singing with them, and most importantly, folded them in prayer. His faith was the foundation of his life.

His final words to many while leaving the hospital were, “I’m going home.” And on August 12, 2026, he did.

He went home. 

Graveside services for Forrest will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Pineview Cemetery in Orgas, WV, with David Cook officiating and Duke Stewart singing.
