Obituary

Everett "Bo" Stumbo, 90, of Fosterville, WV, died peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, under Hospice Care at The Gables of Canton, Ohio. We place our faith and hope that he is with his Lord in Heaven and reunited with the love of his life, Hazel Lee (Aldridge) Stumbo, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. He married Hazel on April 28, 1956, in Inez, KY. Their love for each other was unwavered and was the foundation from which they lived their lives. Everett was born on September 8, 1935, in Wayne County, WV to the late Jesse and Flora (Mills) Stumbo. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loyal friend to those who knew him. Everett had a gentle and caring spirit, a sweet smile and a loving heart. He had a great sense of humor and a special way of loving his family and friends that made you feel lucky to be with him. He will leave a void in the hearts of his family and friends that can never be filled.

For most of his life, Everett worked in the timber industry. He started his working career with The J. P. Hamer Lumber Company in Kenova, WV, and later moved to J.P. Hamer locations in Edwight, WV and Madison, WV. Everett was a skilled and respected lumber inspector who was a master of his craft and took his job very seriously. He had an uncanny ability to accurately grade a rough-cut board simply by looking at it and he loved to train employees to become lumber inspectors. In his later years he assisted his wife with running their restaurant in Pettus, WV, Hazel's Hide-A-Way, which they ran for nearly 20 years. Everett loved to be outdoors. Upon retirement, he and Hazel would spend long weekends camping at the Bull Mountain Bluegrass Campgrounds in Crum, WV. The memories they made by the campfire were countless.

Everett was the last surviving member of his family and lived to be the oldest. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Troy, Roy and Ray Stumbo and four sisters, Alberta (Fred) Price, Nellie (Arthur) Muncie, Vada (Calvin) Ballard and Shirley (Carl) Ferguson. He is survived by his three sons, Darrell (Sheila) Stumbo of Massillon, OH, David (Anne) Stumbo of Newton, NC and Kevin (Sandra) Stumbo of Comfort, WV; Grandchildren, Brandon (Christima) Stumbo, Cassi (Jesse) Aliff, Mikayla (Cody) Caffro and Tad (Jilly) Dunn; Great Grandchildren, Ryder Stumbo, Addaley, Arielle and Keegan Aliff, Samual and Grant Caffro and Millie and Archer Dunn as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Calling hours will be from 1pm to 2pm, followed by the funeral service at 2pm. Eugene Spurlock, Jr. will be officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Everett's name to:
