Everett "Buddy" Ballard

Everett “Buddy” Ballard of Foster, WV passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Boone Memorial Hospital, Madison, WV following a long illness.
Buddy was born in Danville, WV on August 29, 1927 to the late Howard and Sarah (Mullins) Ballard. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Vinnie Chapman and Virginia Deck; and by his brother, Harold Ballard.
He is survived by his wife of 64 wonderful years, Donna Ashby Ballard; his three sons, Everett E. Ballard, Jr. (Stacia) of Prosperity, SC, Charles “Chuck” Ballard (Aleta) of Madison and John Ballard (Tammy) of Foster; six grandchildren, Carrie Burns, Monica Ballard, Rachel Ballard, Sarah Ryan, Shawn Ballard and Evan Ballard; ten-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was a Christian and a member of Foster Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Scott High School, Class of 1946 and was captain of the basketball team. He began working for C & O Railroad while still in high school and retired from CSX after 42 years of service.
He has touched the lives of countless young people in Boone County. He was one of the founding fathers of the Madison Little League, both baseball and basketball, and later formed a Pony League baseball traveling team. He coached the Rock Creek Grade School basketball team. He was a Scout Master of troop 85 Boy Scouts of America at Foster, WV. In 2010, he was recognized by the Madison Little League for having four generations of his family who played Little League at Madison.
Buddy, Donna and their family enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach, camping, fishing, hunting, square dancing and their grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman and an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.
He left his family with many wonderful memories to cherish. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be 2:00 P. M. Sunday, September 9 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Nathaniel Dolin and Doug Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Ashby Cemetery, Foster.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
