Ernestine McComas

Ernestine McComas, 92, of Culloden, WV, formerly of Midkiff, WV went to her heavenly home June 2, 2024 where she was reunited with her husband James A. McComas. Ernestine, daughter of the late Ernest and Lola Adkins was born November 6, 1931 in Logan, WV. Ernestine worked for West Virginia Department of Highways for 20 years. She was a devout Christian, and never failed to sing His praises in the choir. Ernestine loved to cook and entertain - she was an excellent cook. She was the best hostess, and made everyone feel warm and welcomed at her dinner table. She paid great attention to detail whether it was the table she decorated for dinner, the watercolor flowers she painted, or the matching outfits she wore from head to toe. She was truly one of a kind.

Ernestine was reunited with her husband, parents, & siblings Dorthy Stratton, Betty Roy, Alvis, and grandson Jesse Lee McComas who she missed dearly. Surviving sons are Mark McComas (Donna) of Charleston, SC, and James “Dickie” (Debbie) of Red House, WV. Her siblings are Jennifer Rockmore (Jeff), Francis Miller, Robert Dale (Kathy), and a special brother-in-law Eugene Roy.

She is also survived by her granddaughter Brittany Smith (Billy) of Red House, WV, and great-granddaughter Quinn Smith. In addition, her step-granddaughters are Erica and Amber Oblinger of Charleston, SC, and step-great-grandson Rayne.

The family would like to thank English Meadows for their loving care & devotion for the past 5 years. A special thanks to Nicole, Alice, Ladora, and Yvonne for their dedication & kindness.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to St. Mary’s ICU unit who were angels on earth in her final days.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday June 6, 2024 at Handley Funeral Home Hamlin, WV. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park Hamlin, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to service on Thursday. Friends may express their condolences at handleyfh.com.
