In Loving Memory of Ernest Howard Stone Jr. August 23, 1948 – September 17, 2025
With hearts full of sorrow but grounded in faith, we announce the peaceful passing of Ernest Howard Stone Jr., who went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by those who loved him deeply.
Born on August 23, 1948, in Madison, West Virginia, Ernest was the son of the late Ernest Howard Stone Sr. and Mary Frances Price Stone. A man of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and deep compassion, Ernest lived a life that reflected the values he held dear: love, service, humility, and integrity.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and continued his commitment through the Army National Reserves. After his military service, Ernest worked faithfully for Bethlehem Steel for 29 years, where he was respected not just for his work ethic but for the kindness he showed to everyone around him.
Outside of his career, Ernest found peace and joy in hunting and fishing, spending time in nature. His greatest joy, however, was his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Wilma Lee Stone, his beloved daughter Lori Ann Stone Puckett and son-in-law Stacy Wayne Puckett, grandchildren Jacob Wayne Puckett and Megan Calla Puckett, and great-grandsons Wylder Douglas Honeycutt and Rader Wayne Honeycutt, who each brought light and pride to his days. He is also survived by his loving sisters: Louella Faye Stone Thomas, Reba Mae Stone Halstead, and Linda Jo Stone Ball.
Ernest was a long-time member of Faith Bible Church, where he served the Lord faithfully and shared the Word as a Sunday School teacher. His love for Christ was evident in the way he lived—gentle, generous, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was also a proud member of the VFW, continuing his lifelong commitment to service and brotherhood.
Those who knew Ernest will remember him as a kind, benevolent, and loving man, whose presence offered comfort, whose words offered wisdom, and whose life offered an example of humility and grace.
In accordance with his wishes, Ernest was cremated, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor the legacy he leaves behind.
While our hearts grieve, we take comfort in knowing that Ernest is now at peace, embraced by the love of his Savior and reunited with those who went before him. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
