Obituary

Emily "Ann" Hilterbrand Ball Stuart, 87 years old; born on February 6th, 1939 in Gordon, West Virginia, and resident of Rainelle, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 2:06 PM, following a long illness.

Ann fought the good fight, finished her race, and held tightly to her faith in Jesus until the very end. Her faithful walk with the Lord was a testimony to those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind not only the memories of a life well lived, but a legacy of faith, love, strength, and devotion that will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and generations to come.

Ann worked as a Certified Nurse Aide from 1980 until 2014, dedicating many years of her life to caring for others. She was also a loyal and faithful member of Star of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church for many years, where her love for Jesus and her faith were an important part of her life.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Malcolm Stuart; her father, Oscar (Emery) Hilterbrand; her mother, Virginia Hilterbrand; her baby daughter, Ava Jo Ball; and her brother, Emmil Hilterbrand.

Ann is survived by her three sons, Howard (Carolyn) Ball of Navarre, Ohio; Roger (Cheryl) Ball of Rainelle, West Virginia; and Tim (Lisa) Ball of Wooster, Ohio. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Jamie Ball, Jason Ball, Rachel Ball (David) Schuler, Brandon Black, Caleb (Brittani) Stanley, Cendelyn (Alex) Workman, Christopher (Chelsea) Ball, and Michael Ball; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and her loyal companion, "Girl."

Ann's life was marked by love, perseverance, faith, and devotion to her family and to God. The greatest part of her legacy is not simply what she leaves behind, but the faith and love she planted in those who will carry her memory forward.

Well done good and faithful daughter, welcome Home.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 17th, 2026 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV; with services officiated by Pastor Wayne McCray with music and worship lead by nephew and minister Clifford Hilterbrand. Burial to follow in Mid-Ferrell Cemetery, Bandytown, WV.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
