Elsie Ellen Hunter

Elsie Ellen Hunter, 92, of Vienna, WV passed away at home under the care of Hospice surrounded by her daughters, Iretta and Kim and her niece Phyllis.  

She was born December 3, 1931 in Marfrance, WV.  She was the daughter of the late James Mounts and Esther Hammack Mounts.

Elsie was devoted to her family growing up. She helped care for her younger siblings which prepared her for her role as a mother. Elsie was devoted to her two daughters.  She often talked of taking them shopping dressed in their finest clothes and how strangers would comment on how pretty they were.  As her daughters grew older, she was a second mom to her daughter’s friends. From elementary to high school and from college to beyond, she became known as mama Hunter.  Her door was open and the food was always plentiful.

She is survived by her daughters, Iretta Hunter of Vienna, WV Kimberly (J.T.) Moore of Shepherdstown, WV, sisters; Jean Mounts and Judy Bell of Hurricane, WV, granddaughter; Katherine (Ben) Smith of Gerrardstown, WV, great grandsons; Callum and Benjamin Smith, sisters in law; Barbara Hunter of Millwood, WV and Kathy Hunter of Mason, WV, and beloved niece; Phyllis Fox and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Hershel H. “Doc” Hunter, brothers; Kenneth (Maxine) Mounts, Russell (Roxie) Mounts, Jackie (Trudy) Mounts, sisters; Virginia (William) Hoover, Faye (Joe) Thibodeauy, brothers in law; Henry (Mary) Hunter, Harry Hunter, Hansel (Caroline) Hunter, Herman Hunter, Homer Hunter, and  James Bell, sisters in law; Roberta (Harley) Harbison, and Sue Maison

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024 Memory Gardens, Low Gap Road, Madison, WV with William Roger Hoover officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Cancer Research Institute.
