Eddie Lee Burns

Eddie Lee Burns, 76, of Madison, WV passed away Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born in Madison, WV on July 24, 1949 to the late Luther “Edward” and Emma Price Burns. He grew up in Wharton and was a graduate of Van High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in Vietnam.

Eddie was a hardworking coal miner for Eastern Associated, Peabody, and Patriot Coal. He was a proud member of the UMWA serving as a committeeman for many years.

He dedicated his life to his family and grandchildren. He was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a broad range of skills, from building a house to fixing just about anything. He also had a knack for establishing connections with people.

Surviving are wife Opal, daughters Misty (Frank) Cook and Kristin Burns; granddaughters, Leila, Olivia, Zoe and Emma; great grandson, Kash; brothers, Rocky (Patricia) Burns and Scotty Burns; sister, Frances (Danny) Hager; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Handley Funeral Home, Danville WV with Pastor Tim Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
