Douglas R. Carter, 59, of Jeffrey, WV passed away on April 2, 2026, from a short battle with lung cancer.
He was born October 30, 1966 to the late Isaac Carter of Nashville, TN and Sandra “Kay” White of Lake, WV. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Marie White of Jeffrey, WV; his brother, David “Yogil” White of Jeffrey, WV; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
In his early years, Douglas was a construction worker and later joined the coal mining family of Coal Mac. He was also a member of Madison Moose Lodge since 1991.
Douglas loved people and had too many friends to count. He loved the outdoors – either in the mountains, on his side-by-side, or on a curvy road on his Harley. If he wasn’t outdoors, you could find him at the Logan or Madison Moose Lodge looking for a pool tournament and conversation.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of nearly 37 years, Margaret Carter; brother, Ronald “Deano” Carter of Jeffrey, WV; sisters, Sherry Belcher of Princeton, WV, Tammi Carter of Princeton, WV, and Kimberly Carter Piercy of Beckley, WV; niece, Brittany Farley (Chris) of Uneeda, WV, Cory Robinson (Katey Green) of Uneeda, WV, and David Miller (Taylor Parker) of Jeffrey, WV; great-niece, Bailey Miller; mother-in-law, Margaret Setliff; special brother-in-law, Michael Setliff; and three boys that Douglas thought the world of -- Ethan Prince, Joshua Miller, and Liam Jones. Douglas is also survived by a host of family and friends, especially the three that were faithful and never more than a phone away, Rocky Conley of Amherstdale, WV, Gary Woodrum of Dandridge, TN, and David “Abuck” Aleshire of Hewett, WV; lastly, his two most loyal companions, Bear and Chance.
Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Ginger Dials officiating. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens, Low Gap Road, Danville, WV. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
