Denvil “Junior” Goff Smith Jr. of Bim, WV passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 13, 2024. He was 78 years old.  

Junior was born March 24, 1946 to Dorothy (Baldwin) and Denvil Goff Smith Sr.  He was a Vietnam Veteran, serving 3 tours of duty from 1967 to 1970. Upon returning home to West Virginia, Junior worked as a coal miner until he became disabled. 

Junior loved spending time in the hills hunting deer and ginseng, planting and working in his garden every year and making handmade yard ornaments.  The colorful tinmen were everyone’s favorite and giving them away to friends and family brought Junior great joy.

Junior was a member of Freedy Freewill Baptist Church.   He was also a longtime member of the Daniel Boone Post 5578 of the VFW, proudly serving as an honor guard alongside his fellow veterans.  

Junior is preceded in death by his loving wife, Brenda (Jenkins) Smith; his parents, Dorothy and Denvil Goff Smith Sr; his sister, Brenda (Smith) White; and grandson, Billy Ray Vance Jr.

He is survived by his children Lora (Sydney) White of Ohio, Lisa (Bart) Miller of South Carolina, Theresa Keeney of Ohio, Ralph Keeney Jr. of Pennsylvania and Russell (Kathy) Keeney of Pennsylvania; grandchildren Christopher (Genna) Keeney of Ohio, Morgan White of Ohio, Hannah (Jeff) Adams of South Carolina, Julian (Tasha) Perez of Ohio, Juliana Perez of Ohio and Elizabeth Wood of Ohio; great grandchildren Amelia, Tyler, Bethany, Isabella, Gianna, Julian Jr., Julio and Josie; sister Carolyn (Smith) Harvey of Michigan, James “Jimmy” Smith of West Virginia and Debbie (Smith) Adkins of West Virginia; and his furry companions Myrtle, who brought great comfort after the death of his wife, and Tommy, the homeless kitty that Junior cared for and named.

Funeral services will be held at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV on Friday, May 17, 2024.  The family will welcome visitors starting at 1pm.  The funeral service will begin at 2pm, officiated by Pastor Steve Burns. Burial will be immediately after the service at Pineview Cemetery in Orgas, WV.  Junior will be laid to rest beside his wife, Brenda.
