Darrell Wayne Elbon

Darrell Wayne Elbon, 84, passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2026.

Born August 8, 1941, he was a son of the late Ralph Jr. and Minnie Elbon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Sony” Elbon.

Wayne was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, Co. B. 58th Infantry and 697th Engr. Co. He later retired as a heavy equipment operator in the coal mines. A 100% All-American, Wayne loved animals of all kinds (including his fur babies Prissy, Chief and Sassy), family BBQ’s, and cooking contests.

He is survived by his sisters, Susan Elbon Oars of Buckhannon, WV and Martha Jane Elbon Krause of Charleston, WV; and brother-in-law James and Marlena Adkins of Madison, WV.

Wayne was always ready to help a loved one in need and will be missed by all who knew him.

Burial will be at a later date.

Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV is assisting the family.
