Darrell E. Barnhart

July 5, 1918 — March 8, 2013

Darrell E. Barnhart, 94, of Madison, WV passed into glory on March 8, 2013 at Boone Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer, leaving his soul mate of 73 years, Vada, who will join him in glory.
He was born July 5, 1918 in Marietta, Ohio to Albert and Verna Barnhart.
In addition to his loving wife, he leaves behind a son, Mike Barnhart and wife Jan of Anna Maria, FL; daughter, Patti Price and husband Jerry of Madison, WV; grandsons, Chris (Christie) Barnhart of Madison, WV and Philip (LaQuita) Barnhart of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Persephone Barnhart, Phineas Barnhart and Cathrynn Barnhart; step-grandchildren, Kiersten and Kyleigh Sanders; and brother, Gerald Barnhart of Beaumont, TX.
He was a faithful member of Madison Baptist Church for 75 years where he served in many capacities including church treasurer for over 50 years, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, Board of Finance, and most importantly his service as Coordinator of the church’s food pantry. He faithfully attended church until he was unable to due to poor health.
He was retired from the Madison Post Office after 33 years of service. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed at the Fleet Post Office in New Hebrides, South Pacific.
The family would like to thank the staff of Boone Memorial Hospital for the care he received. Many thanks to his special neighbors Randy and Judy Foxx and to Mary Jarrell, his caregiver.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013 at Madison Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madison Baptist Church food pantry in Darrell’s memory.
