A Recipe for a Life Well Lived

In Loving Memory of Daphenia "Daffy" Faye Whitman

Take one faithful servant of God.

Add a generous measure of unwavering faith, a heart completely surrendered to Jesus Christ, and countless hours spent in prayer for others.

Mix in abundant wisdom, Godly discernment, and the courage to speak truth in love.

Fold in a deep devotion to family. Daffy loved fiercely and faithfully. Whether as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, or friend, she poured herself into the lives of those she loved. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, prayer, and biblical wisdom. She was the families “Spiritual Rock” when they needed prayer, guidance, encouragement, or simply someone who cared.

Season generously with kindness, compassion, grace, and a heaping amount of holy boldness.

Add a lifetime of serving the Lord, helping others, sharing wisdom, and pointing people toward Jesus.

Then stir in her favorite Scripture:

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." — Romans 8:28

This promise anchored her through every season of life and reflected the steadfast faith she carried each day.

Allow this recipe to simmer for 83 blessed years.

Daphenia "Daffy" Faye Whitman of Foster, West Virginia, ran into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born on January 9, 1943, in Longacre, West Virginia, and raised in Peach Creek, and resided in Foster, WV. She lived a life marked by faith, prayer, love, and service to others.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer Whitman; her twin sister, Ellie White; sisters Babaette Johnson, Dot Lee, Jeaneene Lee, and Pat Shamblin; and her brother, Sam Haynes.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love through her children, Russell (Sheila) Whitman, Homer "Sam" (Mary) Whitman, and Sophia Whitman-Borden; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Mug McNeely; two precious nieces, Jake and Leatha, affectionately known throughout the family as "her girls"; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her prayers, wisdom, and love.

Sprinkle everything with her favorite color—purple—a reminder of the royalty of the King she faithfully served and the heavenly home she now enjoys.

On June 14, 2026, the Lord welcomed His precious daughter home. We can only imagine the joy as she heard the words she lived her life to receive:

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the assurance that she is healed, whole, and forever in the presence of Jesus.

Daffy's recipe for life was simple: love Jesus wholeheartedly, love your family fiercely, pray without ceasing, trust God completely, and never miss an opportunity to encourage someone along the way.

Her legacy lives on in every prayer she prayed, every life she influenced, every word of wisdom she shared, and every family member she loved so deeply. She will be missed beyond measure, cherished always, and remembered with gratitude until we meet again.

Her life was a beautiful recipe—one part faith, one part family, seasoned with prayer, overflowing with love, and anchored forever in the promise of Romans 8:28.
