Clettis Wayne King

October 17, 1947 — May 10, 2024

Bob White, WV

Clettis Wayne King passed away peacefully at his home in Bob White, WV on Friday, May 10th 2024 surrounded by his wife and daughters after years of declining health.

Clettis went to work at the age of 16 years old.  He was a welder by trade and worked for many years in the coal industry. He eventually started his own welding business and was contracted to weld on heavy equipment. He worked hard every single day of his employed life.

Clettis was a Sunday School teacher when his three daughters were young and believed fully in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was saved and baptized in 1970 and unto his death, never denied knowing Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

As a young man, Clettis loved to play bluegrass music, particularly the banjo, with his Dad and other relatives.  Clettis learned to play by ear and was a natural.  He could play anything he picked up but unfortunately gave up music when his father passed, as he couldn’t imagine playing with anyone else.

Clettis was also an avid Bass fisherman and spent most Saturdays on Norris Lake, usually with the one daughter who happened to wake up early enough to go with him that day.  His goal was always to catch enough fish to take home and clean for a big dinner.

Clettis was a loving husband and father and is survived by his wife, Bertha Jean (Jeanie) King of Bob White, WV, and daughters Cynthia Karen Payne, and Teresa Eileen Parker (Brent) both of Calhoun, GA.  He is also survived by his sisters Lucy Marcum (Steve), and Sharon Bryant, both of Morristown, TN and grandchildren Tiffany Combs (Brance), Kasey Mozingo, Abigail Meadows, Brodix O’Ree, Ansleigh Payne, six great grandchildren, and other relatives.

Clettis was preceded in death by his parents Ruby Hester and William Benjamin King of Middlesboro, KY, his sister Sheila Holman of Bristol, VA and eldest daughter, Rhonda Denise Meadows of Lafollette, TN.

The family has chosen to have a private service at a later date.
