Charlie Ball, 81, of Braxton County, WV passed away on March 7, 2024.
He was born and raised in Boone County WV. Attended Scott High school. He worked in the coal industry as a welder and equipment operator in his younger days. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing softball. Charlie was known as one of the best slow pitch softball pitchers in the state. He helped the Ramage, Lynn Coal and the Spirit of 76 ball
teams to win four league championships, four district championships, and fifteen invitation tournaments. He once pitched a no-hit shutout. He also spent several years managing and coaching Little League Baseball where he helped to encourage the youth in Boone County. His greatest achievements were when he put his Lord and Savior on in
Baptism and started living a Christian life. He attended the Eureka Methodist Church.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alma Ball; and four brothers Billy, Richard, Jimmie, and George.
He is survived by his wife Gracie Margaret Ball; one son, A.J. Ball and wife Becky of Tennessee; one grandson Stephan and wife Brooke of Tennessee; two great grandsons, Winston and Hudson; two brothers Franklin and Elbert Ball of Greenview, WV; and his dog Bandit and his cat Jasper who he loved.
The family would like to thank the WV Caring and Hospice. Also wants to thank Beverly, Johnny, and Ryan for helping Margaret and Charlie in his last days.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Roger McCauley and Frank Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison, WV.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
