Charles R. Varney, Sr. 80 of Spars Creek Road, Danville, WV was born June 8, 1941, at Big Creek, WV. He died September 15, 2021, at home after a short illness with his family.
He was a coal miner with over 30 years work experience, a US Army Veteran, and long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Danville.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, children; David & Teresa Long of Kansas, Robert ‘Bob’ & Jessica Long of Pennsylvania, Ray & Dana Varney, Melanie & Roger Stollings, and Susan Varney all of Danville, Robin & Geoffrey Saunders of Chapmanville, WV, and Angela & Phillip Hill also of Danville, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 brothers, 4 sisters (1 deceased), and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 19 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Pastors Darrell Searls and Geoffrey Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Indian Grave Road, Danville, WV. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Military Rites will be performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post #5578 of Madison, WV.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the hospice staff of Kanawha Hospice.
