Charles “Buck” Mitchell, 76, of Madison, West Virginia, was born January 27, 1949 and passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
Buck was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family was unmatched. He was married to the love of his life, Grace Ann Mitchell, and together they raised six wonderful children. He now rejoices in Heaven with his two beloved sons, Christopher and Joshua Mitchell.
A proud West Virginia Mountaineers fan and lifelong sports enthusiast, Buck’s passion for the game was contagious. It wasn’t unusual to find him watching two TVs, listening to a game on the radio, and talking about another sport—all at the same time. No matter the day, every conversation with Buck somehow circled back to his favorite topic—sports.
Buck was preceded in death by his loving parents, Charles and Madge Mitchell, both of Madison; his sons, Joshua and Christopher Mitchell, of Madison; and his son-in-law, Chris Ryan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Grace Ann Mitchell; his children, Rob and Ivy Mitchell of Clayton, NC; Chuck and Kris Mitchell of Madison, WV; Kelly Ryan of Madison, WV; and Jessica and Jeremy Caldwell of South Charleston, WV.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Kendyl Harvey, Matney, and Dylan Ryan; Kaidence and Kynlee Caldwell; Natalie, Nate, and Adrianna Mitchell; Cloie Mitchell; and Camryn and Carlee Mitchell; as well as his great-grandchildren, Asher, Kennedy, Carter, Layton, Lawson, Lennon, and Archer.
Though Buck’s presence will be missed beyond measure, his stories, laughter, and endless sports talk will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, West Virginia, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
