Husband, dad, grandad, and great-grandad were the names that Cecil Wayne Elkins loved the most. After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, he went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2023 at CAMC Memorial Hospital’s HospiceCare in Charleston. Born and raised in Uneeda on January 19, 1950, Wayne spent his life loving his family in the rolling mountains of southern West Virginia. A true WVU Football fan, retired from Patriot Coal Company, and a member of the Madison United Methodist Church, his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Buddy” and Helen Elkins of Uneeda. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Jo Weiland Elkins, sons Robert Elkins of Hollywood Florida and Christopher (Angela) Elkins of Madison and daughters Tracy (Timothy) Brown of Uneeda and Julianne (Joseph) Smith of Uneeda.
As much love as he had for his children, his true prized possessions were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Taylor (Chase) Booth and son Owen, Sydney (Preston Adams) Brown, Jayden Elkins, Chloe Brown, Mason Brown, Brody Elkins, Eli Smith, and Amelia Smith.
Known as a hard worker and sometimes serious in nature, he was quick with a joke and a smile and never stopped supporting anything that his kids and grandkids were involved with. Always making sure that he was in the audience, in the stands, or next to the dugout, there was no place he would rather be, than watching his family do the things they loved to do.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 6pm at the Madison United Methodist Church and will be officiated by Reverend Robert Fulton and Timmy Spratt. The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Madison United Methodist Church Choir, PO Box 216 Madison, WV 25130.
