Billie Rose Bailey, 87, of Bloomingrose, WV went to her eternal home on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

She was a loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Raymond and Lucy Short; her brother, Johnny; and her beloved grandson, Jason.

She leaves behind her daughter, Sherry Spurlock; son, Scott; brother, Dan Short; great-grandson, Landon Spurlock; and her favorite cat, Molly. Billie is also survived by a host of family and friends who lovingly called her “Nanny.”

Billie grew up in a coal camp in Clean Eagle, WV. She learned to cook on a coal stove and learned how to do outdoor plumbing. She was an incredible student. She worked as a nurse in Hazard, KY and Man Appalachian Hospital before she stopped to raise her two children. She was a preacher’s wife, Sunday School teacher, mentor, and a symbol of strength and love for so many.

She may be gone from this earth, but her spirit will continue to live on through her family and her friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV, with services officiated by Eugene Spurlock. The family welcomes friends and family for visitation one hour prior to the service.
